Stay Ahead of the Supply Chain Issues

We often talk about ordering supplies a season ahead of time.  While the temperature is up in the 90s and people are going to the beach and taking their vacations, it is time to start thinking about autumn.  What supplies do you know you are going to need?  It is best to get those orders in soon.  Getting orders in a few months ahead of when you need them is not just a good practice so you can avoid the stress and additional costs of ordering stuff at the last minute.  The news has been loaded with stories about the global supply chain issues and shipments from all over are being delayed.  Even domestic shipments are taking longer than usual.

There are always going to be items you won’t know you will need until possibly the last minute, however, there are things that you know are going to be coming up. If you manage a complex with trees, you know the leaves are going to fall, so you are going need leaf bags.  Gathering and cleaning up the leaves require other tools and machines.  Were those tools in good shape last year?  Did you make a note to yourself to buy new rakes or blowers?  If you did, then now is the time to get it done.

If you are still ordering supplies for the summer, it could be difficult and time consuming to start to think about the fall. However, once you get to a point where you are a few months ahead on your ordering, you will start to notice that you are less stressed about whether items will arrive on time.  Stocking early is also a great moral boost for the people who have to do the work.  They will see that you are supporting them in their jobs and they can get the work done without worrying about running out of supplies.
